#InTheNews | From Observer to Leader: Why Europe Needs a Bold Space Strategy (and Fast!) «Europe needs to develop its capabilities, as it is still dependent on the major space powers and needs to be a beneficial partner in future collaborations as the space race continues. It is said that the race to the Moon is only the beginning of the race to Mars and as we move closer to the expansion of society into space, Europe must have a say when it comes to writing the rules.»#SpaceRace20 #ResourceRush #SpaceLawVacuum #PrivateSpaceBoom #EarthBenefits #SpaceTourism #OrbitalLaw #EUAscends #ISSToMars #SpaceTrashTalk [News] https://lnkd.in/dqddaGpC via Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung[Infographic] https://lnkd.in/dsMeEcWR via Maximize Market Research Pvt Ltd

The wonderful thing about space is that there are no real boundaries or nations, so everyone can participate in space exploration. In fact, countries that have historically been inactive in the space community are now starting to bolster their programs and planning on entering the space economy. Egypt, in association with several other African countries, is one such nation. This marks a significant shift in the way in which space exploration is viewed by the people of Africa. Let's hope that this will mean more space explorers of African descent!#LimitlessPossibilities #LimitlessOpportunities #HigherFurtherFasterhttps://lnkd.in/gdd6vN2p

Water on the Moon: international prize launches for purifying lunar water Nearly 6 in 10 (58%) people in the UK believe that developing technology for the harsh environment of space could help us back on Earth, with more than half (56%) believing that using technology in space means we can better understand our own planet and how to protect it.The new research from Challenge Works and the UK Space Agency marks the launch of the £1.2m Aqualunar Challenge. The new international challenge prize - in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency | Agence spatiale canadienne and Impact Canada - is rewarding the creation of innovative technologies to make human habitation on the Moon viable by finding ways to purify water buried beneath the lunar surface. The research of 2,000 adults in the UK conducted by polling agency Opinium found that 62% of people believe that technologies designed for space exploration should have applications here on Earth, with more than half (51%) saying technologies designed for the Moon should prioritise sustainability.#Moon #Space #LunarWater #UK #Canada #Technology #Earth #PurifyingWater #AqualunarChallenge #GlobalInnovation #LunarWater #Innovation https://lnkd.in/eR78yXPY

🚀🛰🌌 We’re reaching for the stars, but the cosmic exploration comes with a profound responsibility!A recent Financial Times article caught my attention — Aarti Holla-Maini, the new director of the @United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs, has urged governments and industry leaders to prioritise voluntary guidelines for sustainable space use over the complexities of a new global treaty.Increasing space junk due to a surge in rocket launches and satellites is a stark reality. Aarti suggested that a binding global treaty may face challenges amid current tensions. Instead, she emphasised accelerating the implementation of voluntary United Nations guidelines issued in 2019 to ensure space sustainability.I truly understand her perspective. Prioritising actionable steps over bureaucratic hurdles is the need of the hour. The suggested guidelines focus on safely managing space activities, mitigating debris, and sharing data on satellite operations. Currently, around 9,000 tonnes of debris is orbiting the Earth as per NASA. The Space Sustainability Rating indicates a 27-fold increase in launch traffic in low earth orbit over the past decade. If these facts do not highlight the urgency of effective measures, I don’t know what will.As innovators and stewards of our planet, we must ensure that our space ventures do not compromise the sanctity of space. While the majority of us do not hold decision-making power in this arena, we can and should still play our role by educating ourselves and voicing our concerns.Let's stay informed, champion responsible practices, and contribute proactively to forging a safer and sustainable future beyond our planet.🔗 Read the full Financial Times article here: https://lnkd.in/gckitVZ7#Recykal #SpaceSustainability #CircularEconomy #UNGuidelines #Innovation #sustainabilityleadership

The exploration of the Moon and the development of In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) technologies are essential for the future of space exploration. By harnessing the Moon's resources, we can reduce the cost and increase the sustainability of missions, opening up new possibilities for longer stays on the Moon and beyond. This endeavor not only expands our scientific knowledge but also paves the way for future manned missions to Mars and the establishment of permanent bases in space. #SpaceWeekLuxembourg #SpaceInnovation #WaterRecovery #SustainableSpace #MoonBase #SpaceTechnology #ISRU #FutureOfExploration #SpaceCondensation

[Establishing an Enabling Space Environment in Namibia]In 2021, Namibia launched a National Space Science and Technology Policy to guide the use of space resources to contribute towards the socio-economic growth and development of the country. The policy has an implementation period of eight years, concluding in 2030.Namibia’s collaboration with China has led to the ongoing construction of an impressive Satellite Data Receiving Ground Station (SDRGS). This initiative, among other developments in the Namibian space industry, prompted Space in Africa to interview Dr Lisho Mundia, the Director of Research and Innovation at the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation, who shared insights into Namibia’s progress in the second year of its space policy. Additionally, the discussion covered the country’s focus for 2024.#galaxyaerosgh#space#spaceexploration#spacenews
